Nathanaël BRIEGEL

Guitars, composition and arrangements

 

Nathanaël BriegelBorn in 1964, he studies guitar at age 15 with J.C. Jones, René Bosc and Gérard Marais. Two years later, he plays with several bands and teaches at the Jazz Action Montpellier school of music.

In 1983, he studies at the Guitar Institute of Technology of Los Angeles with Scott Henderson, Joe Diorio and particularly with Frank Gambale, a new technique called Sweep Picking. In the same period, he performs in numerous L.A. clubs.

 Graduate from GIT with special mention Jazz and Fusion in 1986, he plays with Japanese singer Keiko Sugaï and works in recording studios as guitarist and drum machine programmer.

Back in France in 1988, he founds a Jazz Guitar duet with Jean-Marie Viguier called Out to Lunch. In 1989, he founds the Briegel Bros. Band with his brother Cyrille and teaches at the Centre Musical et Créatif de Nancy School of Music, in charge of the Sweep Picking and Fusion programs. In 1992, he joins J.M. Viguier's band Sable Chaud, and in 1994, become a member of the Jazz Big Band Shake Orchestra.

Since, its career is associated with Briegel Bros Band's and the trio Catalina founded in 1997 with his brother Cyrille and the percussionist Yvon Susini

In 1999 he records BBB's 2nd CD "Détours", distinguished by 3 HHH in the French Magazine JAZZMAN). The band tours in Japan and all over Europe (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Moldova, etc.)

In 2000, he founds with three Lorraine guitarists the guitars quartet "4 Guitars Only" whose 1st creation will be played within the framework of the concerts programmation of IRTS de Lorraine and EMD, in Nancy and to "Trinitaires" in Metz, in April 2001

In parallel the concerts continue with Briegel Bros. Band: France in March/April 2001, Poland in April/May 2001, Hungary in June/July 2001, Sweden Norway in March 2001 and October 2002. In spring 2006 he prepares a new record, CO' ERRANCES, third album of BBB (who will be published by EMD in autumn 2006).

Cyrille BRIEGEL

E-bass, composition and arrangements

 

Cyrille BriegelBorn in 1966, he studies electric bass at the Jazz Action Montpellier School of music at age 15 with Barre Phillips and Dominique Di Piazza, and performs with several jazz bands.

At age 20, he moves to Los Angeles and plays in clubs frequently with Islands of Time (Latin jazz).

He also studies with Gary Willis (bassist with Wayne Shorter and Scott Henderson).

Back in France three years later, he founds the Briegel Bros. Band with his brother Nathanaël , teaches at the Centre Musical et Créatif de Nancy School of Music and joins the Brazilian music band Guaraná.

He also uses a computer to record sequences for pedagogical matters from miscellaneous recordings and is now a member of the jazz big band Shake Orchestra.

Since, its career is associated with Briegel Bros Band's and the trio Catalina founded in 1997 with his brother Nathanaël and the percussionist Yvon Susini.

In 1999 he records "Détours," 2nd album under his name with the BBB, (distinguished by 3 *** in the French Magazine JAZZMAN) and tours with the band in Japan and all over Europe (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Moldova, etc.)

In 2001 for family reasons, he moved to Taiwan. He's currently playing with bands mixed with Taiwanese, American, Japanese, Canadian, German and Australian musicians. In 2005, he joined Russell Rodgers (electric and acoustic guitars, dobro and bouzouki, Canada) and Marie-Eve Bojold (vocal, Canada) to form "Les Chats Noirs", a jazz & blues band with a vintage sound influenced by Blues and French music from the 30's. Dafu (drums, Japan) and Wesley James (trumpet, U.S.A) later joined the band.
He also plays with various other bands including Major Huang (piano, Taiwan), Mark Kuo (keyboards, Taiwan), Michael Haack (sax, Germany), Hope Yeh (guitar, Taiwan) just to name a few.
He also participated two years in a row at the International Jazz Festival of Taichung (October 2005 and 2006).

In 2006, he participates to the new record of BBB Co'Errances" who will be published by EMD in autumn 2006.

Philippe LECLERC May 24th, 1961 ?  June 17th, 2006

Tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones

 

Philippe LeclercBorn in 1961, he studies saxophones in the class of Hubert Prati at the Conservatoire National de Région of Metz from 1978 to 1985. Then he studies in the Jazz-Class of Bernard Struber at the Conservatoire National de Région of Strasbourg from 1991 to 1995, when he also go at Berklee School of Music workshop in Boston (USA).

From 1985 to 1995, he participates in several recordings with bands like Afrodisax, the Metz Saxophone Octuor, the Doukali trio, and particularly Virage Vanguard with who he wins the Special Prize of the Jury at the Avignon Jazz Contest.

In the same time (1985/2005) he collaborates in several jazz projects like the
Big Band Master Piece of Laurent Gianez, the ORJA (Regional Orchestra of Jazz of Alsace of Bernard Struber, the group previously quoted Virage Vanguard, the quartet of the trombonist Yves Robert, the groups of Bireli Lagrène, Jacques Di Donato, Frank Tortiller, Manu Codjia, Franck Agulhon, Philippe Geiss, Shake Orchestra (Orchestra Regional of Jazz in Lorraine), Joe Krenker & Fawzy Al Aedy (group "Format"), Daniel Visani. In particular, he occurred in Berlin, Paris (Sunset, Duc of Lombards), Toulouse, Strasbourg (Musica, Jazz of gold, South Pole), Metz (Trinitaires), Nancy (Festival Emil 13), like in the majority of the festivals, clubs and concert halls of the hexagon and the large towns of Europe.

He joins Briegel Bros Band in 1998, records with them in 1999 the 2nd CD "Détours" distinguished by 3««« in the French Magazine JAZZMAN and participates in the concert tours in Japan and all over Europe (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Moldova, etc.)

In 2006 he records the third album of BBB "Co' Errances", which he will never see finished, because he leaves this world prematurely on June 17, 2006.

Born in 1973 in Brussels, with Rwanda origins, he lives actually in Paris.

He studies drums in 1988 and starts playing with several bands in Luxembourg and Belgium like:

- Kasha quartet (jazz)

- Alaskan Dog Shop (funk, acid-jazz)

At that time, he also starts practicing the electric bass and from 1996, he participates in numerous musical projects, all different, but giving priority to rhythm:

 - Groove delivery (jazz-funk) in Luxembourg and Brussels

- Carlos Arboledo group (Equatorian rock), Los Sals'Heroes (salsa, Latin-jazz), Grégory Lamy quartet (jazz) in Luxembourg

- Triana Flamenco de Marco Garcia (modern flamenco dance), in Luxembourg and Germany

- Christian Michard trio (jazz), Inner Gate (trip-hop), José Seguido quartet (jazz) in Paris

He joins Briegel Bros Band in 2000, becoming the « official » substitute for Cyrille

In 2006, he participates to the new record of BBB Co'Errances" who will be published by EMD in autumn 2006.

Jean-Marc ROBIN

Drums

Jean-Marc RobinBorn in 1973, he studies with the basics of classical percussion, that will make him particularly sensible to the quality of sound.

In 1992, he obtains the first prize of percussion at the Conservatoire National de Région of Nancy (France) and is since 1996, the percussionist-drummer of the horns band Arcadia.

From there, he goes into Jazz and Funk, completing his learning in that area, at the Ecole Nationale de Cergy-Pontoise with the class of Georges Paczinsky where he obtains the first prize in 1996.

At the same time , he plays with the trio of the pianist J.M. Albertucci, with the vocalist Elisabeth Caumont, with the band

Sable Chaud of J.M. Viguier and with the quartet of the saxophonist Franck Turpin.

Since 1991, he also teaches drums and percussion in various music schools in Lorraine.

His playing, characterized by both melodic and dynamic phrasing, make of him a drummer very appreciated and requested by various musical formations among which : BENY' Band Trio (French song and jazz), the pianist Murat OZTURK with the double bass player Jacques VIDAL, and the Regional Orchestra of Jazz of Alsace (ORJA) under the direction of Bernard STRUBER..

He joins Briegel Bros Band in 1998, records with them in 1999 the 2nd CD "Détours" and tours with the band in Japan and all over Europe (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Moldova, etc.)

In 2001 he creates the Trio Aura with Michael CUVILLON (saxophone) and Gerald MULLER (double bass). In 2002 he takes part to the Trio David Laborier with Jean-Yves Jung (Hammond organ) and the Trio of the guitarist Roland Gebhardt always with Jean-Yves Yung. In 2003 he rejoins the regional Orchestra of Jazz of Lorraine - SO2 Shake Orchestra. Among the musicians whom he accompanied we can quote: Daniel Kuffer, Sylvain Beuf, Bob Mintzer, Remy Chaudagne, Mikidach, Jimmy Oihid, Steckar Tuba Pack, Pierre-Alain Goualch, Laurent Gianez, Donald Régnier, Ernie Hammes, Diego Imbert, Jean-Marie Viguier, Valerie Graschaire.

In 2006, he participates to the new record of BBB Co'Errances".
